A clear starting point for a fuel-price story.

The current public figures use accepted forecourt price reports. They are useful for a national snapshot, while the Fuel Price Index and Fuel Price Pulse add range and movement over time.

Five-minute feed checks

Fuel Finder UK checks the government feed every five minutes. A forecourt value changes only when the relevant business reports a new price.

Equal-site averages

Each included forecourt contributes one price to the national average for that fuel. High-volume sites do not receive extra weight.

Freshness and quality checks

Current public figures exclude price reports that are too old, invalid, incomplete or linked to a site that fails the public-data checks.

Built from a real need to compare diesel prices.

Scott, a software developer from Norfolk, started Fuel Finder UK while looking for more affordable diesel for his vintage VW T25 campervan. The personal tool grew into an independent national service for drivers, publishers and fuel-market reporting.

He can comment on building a high-traffic public service as a solo developer, fuel-price transparency, consumer comparison and the practical limits of reported forecourt data.
